Few things give the flavor of a country and culture better than its food. This recipe is fabulous. (The ingredients are listed below the video and adapted to serve 7, not 14!)

Afghanistan’s National Dish

This adaptation serves 7

For preparing the chicken: 

Olive oil (to fry in) 

2 1/2 pounds chicken thighs (or breasts) 

1 big onion 

2 inch cinnamon stick 

2 tsp garam masala 

1/2 tsp saffron 

1/2 tsp cardamom 

1 Tbs coriander powder 

9 cloves 

2 tsp salt 

1.5 qt water 

For the rice: 

2-3 peeled and shredded carrots

Oil (to fry in)

4 Tbs sugar 

1/2 cup raisins

2  1/3 cups rice (cook as you would normally cook rice)
