DID you know that a wooden barrel is a wonderful symbol for our world? A barrel is made up of “staves” [long pieces of wood]. The staves are different widths [from the word “wide”]. But no stave is stronger than another—and no position [place] in the barrel is more important than other positions. What makes the barrel stay together, is that each stave gives strength to, and gets strength from, the others. If just one stave is removed, the barrel will fall apart. Only when they are all together do they make a good barrel. In the same way, our world needs us all. We need to understand each other, respect and value each other and “hold together”. Alone we are nothing.
