My silence

Sodaba is one of our newer writers. She is from Afghanistan and is currently in high school at SOLA (School of Leadership in Afghanistan).  Her native language is Dari.  Sodaba hopes to pursue journalism but, in the meantime, she is proving to be a truly wonderful poet.  (Photo courtesy Pono Lopez, Unsplash!)

There is always a great silence before a hurricane.
My silence is a strong power.

It silences all the storms of anger and ignorance that try to stop me.
One day I will be back with my own identity,

One that you never expected me to be.
I am challenged by you,

But not a single word of yours will change

What God holds further for me.
You might want, or you might not want this,

But I will experience it all.
