By Fairoh.  Fairoh is from Afghanistan and is studying to be a veterinarian, a profession very much needed to help rebuild Afghanistan’s agricultural economy. Everything about Fairoh is gentle—from her care for helpless little animals to her poems. This is her first time writing for us. Congratulations and welcome, Fairoh!

I.
Small cat is singing,
Alone, no family, home.
She keeps trying like me.

II.
Cold and wet weather,
Poor dog alone on the road,
Wants back her warm home.

III.
Small white sheep turns back.
She thinks I look like her mom.
She is kind to me.
